Using the MCEF

The Framework is designed to be used by retailers, seafood producers, suppliers and NGOs alike.

Empty

For retailers, producers and suppliers

The Framework:

  • Can be used by company personnel as a starting point for internal tracking of current company commitments, or as a tool for refining metrics
  • Can be leveraged by, or in conjunction with, an NGO partner to track progress and/or refine metrics
  • Can be used to explore the viability of making additional commitments included in the Framework, by internally tracking current state against the associated metric and means of verification
  • Provides clear means of verification that in turn allows clear information and data requests for supply chain partners
  • Allows companies to pick and choose the commitments they wish to track, based on the commitments they’ve publicly made or are considering making

In addition, a limited number of free, fully confidential, independent assessments (conducted by MRAG Americas directly with the company) are available for companies to use to understand their baseline and/or better understand the effort and data needed to credibly track their progress.

For NGOs

The Framework:

  • Provides third-party, audit-level metrics that can be used to validate their market partners’ progress against key public commitments
  • Serves as an opportunity to consult with and support market partners in meeting the means of verification for each ask, build or improve methods of tracking, etc.
  • Provides metrics for commitments beyond those your market partners have likely made, providing a platform for expanding commitments if desired

Alignment with the Guidance for Companies on Environmentally and Socially Responsible Seafood

The Market Commitment Evaluation Framework was constructed to align with recommendations included in the Guidance for Companies developed by the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions.
