The Need
Empty
Why the Development of this Framework is Important
- Companies have demonstrated leadership by making commitments in their sustainability policies and procurement practices. This is a good thing.
- Yet, there has been limited understanding of progress, reflecting:
- Focus on commitments as the currency of leadership … not progress or impact
- Lack of NGO alignment on a consistent criteria for measuring progress
- Challenges to define and obtain information to assess progress
- This hinders implementation and constrains the ability to understand collective progress.
How We’re Addressing the Need
We developed:
- An agreed framework for assessing progress that is clear, credible, broadly utilized and accepted.
- Common metrics for some of the industry’s most common public commitments, developed by a credible, independent party, and designed to meet a third-party audit standard.
- Metrics that can be broadly utilized and accepted by retailers, the seafood industry and NGOs alike.
